My Interest in Painting
Before, I draw a lot. I initially believe that it was already my calling. My interest in the arts began when I am just in my elementary years. I am captivated with the paintings of my uncle, who is a Fine Arts graduate. By using a charcoal he makes drawing and it was really cool for me way back then in the 80s. He can drew pictures of people almost perfect. He can easily put up his own studio I said to myself. I am just amazed by the realism of his paintings. I tried first copying pictures, images and any kind of stationary things. That is the only way I can draw. I cannot draw moving objects or even objects that I don’t have anything to copy. But I consider it is still a good training background for my budding skill.
At first, pencil portraits are the only drawings that I can only make because of simplicity of pencil portraits. I can also erase it when I made mistakes. I purchased several pencils just for the purpose of trying that one would work best for me. But actually, I don’t have the knowledge on what are its uses. I also tested other kinds and other surfaces to draw. But the only surface that I haven’t actually tried is in canvass. I used other mediums like watercolor and oil pastel. I used to design a number of watercolor portraits but I don’t see any progress in my skills.
I have also tried doing pop art. I tried copying a portrait using pencils and then put some colors in it that actually not the real color of the picture. I gave life to it. It provided me a pretty good feeling that doing pop art portraits might be the one that I really like. I tried it applying on other surfaces, even in shirts and in our wall. But if you are doing things like that over and over, you will lose interest in the long run…. or maybe it is just me. After that, I tried going back again in making pencil portraits but now I tried more of Realism. It really appealed the artist in me in perfecting my skills that almost left me when I lost interest before.
I made some paintings, but I know that sooner or later I will also lose interest. Now, I’m trying my luck in cartoons. Got lot of influence now because of the media. I just wish that my interest in painting will stick with me.
